Sick Week

More from Christmas in Calgary 2008

Wow did the whole last week ever bite! Last Monday I noticed Emmett felt warm and was sleeping a lot..then that night he was sounding really snorty all night. Tuesday he was sneezing and coughing and warm again but no fever and by that afternoon it was a full blown cold for him. His first cold. Now that you are not supposed to give children under the age of 6 cold meds anymore as of this year we only had Baby Tylenol to work with and a few steamy baths and that really seemed to help. That and holding him down and clearing out his nose with a suction bulb for babies which he did not appreciate but it had to be done because he couldn't breath through his nose and that made eating for him very hard. Emmett was really over the worst of it by Friday morning .
I also learned a new lesson in parenthood .... babies have no qualms about sneezing right in your face when they're sick. Needless to say I had it too by the next day. Breastfed babies get less colds that also last for less time and he was over it fairly fast thank God. Unfortunately that doesn't work the same for me..I was sick for a week and could also not take anything other than regular Tylenol, halls and hot baths none of which were good enough for my spoiled migraine strength Advil body....I was not a happy camper. Today I'm finally feeling much better.

Yesterday we of course watched Obama being sworn in on TV at 9 am together, I got some of that on video with Emmett in the background. I thought it would be fun for him to say 'Yeah I saw it..i was hangin out in my saucer when it all went down.' LOL.
Really, I wish I had something more exciting to tell you for the week but that was about it. lol Next week will be a better post : )

Enter the Saucer!

We took a drive down to the Toys R' Us in Nanaimo last weekend and bought Emmett an exersaucer, and a rain forest sounds maker for his crib. The drive there and back he was sound asleep right through the crazy rainy drive home that even Tyler was driving white knuckled through....it wasn't the best weather to be driving in.

So we get home and I open the box to start putting it together and I tell ya I have never seen so many parts to put together but I got it done in about two hours. Below is the results..a very happy baby : )
Other happy news is that Emmett has a new friend; our midwife and friend Amy and her husband Mike welcomed a 9 lb baby boy early Monday morning...Seamus. I can hardly wait to meet him : )
Just an update: Emmett also learned to roll from back to tummy this week! :)

Christmas New Years time warp

That went so fast! I can't believe it's Jan 6th already! Christmas in Calgary almost didn't happen. The weather was really bad before we left; we had had 3 big snowfalls and on the night we were to leave Dec 24th. there was another one the way. We had already been snowed into our drive way as the plows hadn't come all week and Tyler was walking through 2 feet of snow to work instead of driving. We actually didn't know if we were going to be able to get to the airport until just a few hours before departure. This amount of snow for the Comox valley is a once in a decade thing and a white Christmas is also very rare. Luckily, we had two great friends with a truck who took us to the airport and even luckier still we beat the approaching snow storm and flew into Calgary without any major issues.
Emmett was great on the plane, he slept and when he wasn't sleeping, he was transfixed by the TV on the back of the seats. To help his ears with the pressure change on the way up and down, i nursed him and he was fine. It all went really well and besides there were lots of other kids on the plane that were a whole lot louder than he was.
Christmas in Calgary was great, Emmett got too meet so many new faces and he was so good about it. I would put him down to sleep and he would keep waking up to new people staring at him and he would just smile back. I'm really happy he had a chance to meet his Great Grandma as he only has one left. I have pictures of me as a toddler in my Omi's lap and it's one of my favorite pictures even though I don't remember much of her. It was especially fun to watch Emmett trying to open one of his first Christmas presents..he was pretty sure he'd get that open himself and then eat it! I want to say a big thanks to everyone who made our Christmas so great for us and especially for Emmett. Thank you! I hope next year we will be able to give a little back.
As for new years eve...well..lets just say there was a lot of couch time and decompressing to do and that was how we rang in 2009...just as good. Hey at least I actually satyed up until midnight!
I haven't been able to weigh him since Dec 11th so I am guessing that he weighs around 17 lbs.. we will see. My moms group has been out of session for x-mas and returns next week so i can weigh him then. Emmett is 5 months on the 9th and is learning new things so quickly. While we were away in Calgary he learned to blow raspberries. He is sitting with less support than before though still not rolling from back to belly just belly to back. He went into squirmy overdrive and is all about grabbing anything he can get his hands on which can make eating dinner with him on my lap impossible now. He is definitely ready for something new. We are going to buy him an excersaucer and a jolly jumper in a frame with some of his Christmas money this weekend..i can't wait to try him out in them. Our camera battery died over the holidays so all the pics that we taken were from family and I will post those as I receive them. ttys
