It's not hat day!!

Emmett and I out at Airforce base watching the snowbirds. They practice in the comox valley every year for 3 weeks before they tour the airshow. They weren't too loud but there was also an F18 Sabre too and that one was crazy loud..i covered Emmetts ears . Anyways, lots of fun..can't wait to take him next year.

This past month has been full of firsts. On April 14th Emmett finally moved from just saying vowel to saying consonants (dadadada) then on the 25th we were at a friend of mine and suddenly he decided to start crawling! Now it is May 10th and he is crawling everywhere. He can go from crawling to sitting easily and is even starting to pull on on things. Time to start child proofing everything.

On the same weekend, Auntie Corey came out for a visit and got to spend some time with Emmett. Always the little charmer I think they both had a good visit.

He was also hating vegetables and meat for the longest time and just the last couple of days, he has decided that it might not be so bad after all. Thank God! I was beginning to wonder if he'd ever like anything other than fruit oatmeal and cheerios. .....but make no mistake, cheerios are still his favorite.

Today May 10th we had our first Mothers Day together. Tyler made me a pancake breakfast and bought me some flowers and Emmett "drew" on his own card for me. Then we went for a day trip to Denman Island a short 5 min ferry ride from here. Was really nice to get out and see some new scenery. I think I really like this Mommy thing despite the small hiccups along the way....looking forward to lots of fun Mothers days to come.

Emmett weighs 20 lb 10 oz
length is 28.5 inches
head 18.5 inches
and is now 9 months old yesterday

On Tuesday we have his first check up at the doctors office. Really I have nothing much to ask about other than the crazy drool rash under his chin and a few stubborn eczema patches. Still no teeth though..not even a hint. Just periodic drooling and fist gnawing.

We are working on the crib thing in a different way. I was reading a book on sleep problems and one of the suggestions to get him used to his crib was to take off the top rail, lower the mattress and push it right up against our bed. We have been doing this for over a week now and for the most part it's been working fairly well. Once we get him used to that then the rail will go back on and hopefully that ordeal will be done. Cross my fingers.

8 months old & 20 lbs!

Emmett's new room. Goodbye ugly rusty orange. Courtesy of Tyler this room had a total makeover in one weekend and the color is perfect!

Hanging out with his buddy 3 1/2 month old Seamus. Seamus is Amy's first baby and she was our Midwife who delivered Emmett. I wish I could have recorded the sounds the two of them were making at each other..like two little pterodactyls.

Emmett at 7 1/2 months old playing on our bed while I fold laundry...and take pictures of course ; )

One of the pictures my Dad took of Emmett while he was here visiting...just shy of 8 months

8 Months old and lookin handsome!

The last two weeks has been very busy. The week before we decided to do a little spring cleaning which involved getting rid of clutter and cleaning out every room. Then we switched the office and baby room around and Tyler painted it. The color is perfect and I can't believe what a difference a fresh coat of paint makes. It was orange before and now it's a fresh looking blue with a touch of purple. Now I just need to find some removable wall decals to decorate with .... think we might still go jungle but I'll get back to you on that.

My Dad and Marlene came for a visit, it was their first time seeing Emmett since Christmas and their first time out to see us here. We had a great visit. There was lots of photo opportunities and lots to see and do. I heard my Dad on more than one occasion mention the thought of retirement out here...I think that would be a very wise move. I can't say I wouldn't like to have some family move out this way. Dad & Marlene both took some great shots of Emmett too and I've included two of those..more to come as i get them.

Two weeks ago we started giving Emmett Cheerios to eat and he loves those a whole lot. Funny to watch him pick them up with his fingers. He's also getting pretty good at sipping water from a cup..not a sippy cup..but a cup. Think we will skip the sippy cup all together except for maybe on car trips if needed.

Teetering on 20 lbs he has gotten too heavy to carry in the carriers that I have so I am selling those and in place I have bought a Ergo carrier ..this one is much more comfortable so that now when we go for walk on the beach it isn't over in 10 min cause my back is killing me. He still isn't crawling forward but rocks on his hands and knees and shuffles backwards for now. Also still no teeth but the dental hygienist that came and spoke to us at my Moms group says that it could take up to a year. No rush though, we are still breast feeding and I'm in no hurry to feel the wrath of little teeth.
