Bouncing Emmett

Emmetts new sunglasses for the car. The kid freaks out whenever the sun hits his eyes from the back window in the carseat so these were the perfect solution. He didn't pull them off even once.

Baby Feet & Blueberry mouth

Hi Everyone,

It was a great week in terms of weather, we had lots of sunshine which made it all the better to be outside with Emmett getting it while we can. On Monday we took him for his 6 month shots and those went pretty well, now there won't be any new ones for another 6 months....thank God.
Yesterday we got together with a bunch of ladies and their babies and went snow shoeing up at Mount Washington just outside of town here. I just strapped him into his front carrier and we were off. Hard work though, 18lbs 3 oz is not exactly light to carry on your front through the snow but we had a great time all 9 of us and it was perfect weather...when we got back all the babies were sleeping. I think we will do it again next weekend. The friends I have met through Moms group and I set up a facebook site where we can plan more outdoor things together. There are so many things to do out here so I don't think we'll have any trouble coming up with things to do.

Emmett looooooovvvvves oatmeal cereal. In fact he gets mad if you aren't getting it in his mouth fast enough. Finally, something that he likes. We also tried him on blueberries. I took frozen ones and ground them up in the food mill and he also really liked that. Next I think we'll try sweet potatoes.

He is such a little charmer and smiles at anyone who will grant him an audience. I love his smile and even more I love his little giggle. It's the best thing in the world to hear and I get to hear it everyday, I couldn't have imagined that before he was born. He is sitting up much better now and can grab his toys without falling over most times. He's a pretty happy little guy.

Today it was raining so we went out and got some groceries and a jolly jumper for Emmett. We were at a friends last night and e put Emmett in theirs to try it out and he loved it so we decided to get him one as they were on sale too. Below is the video.

No Sir I don't like it!

As you can see from the above picture, he has found his tongue. In fact he does that all day now and thinks it's the funniest thing especially when you do it back.....silly baby.

The feeding thing has been interesting..more so for us than him. Emmett has some pretty strong opinions about he doesn't like. More over he's lost interest in eating rice cereal on the second go and will only eat it if it's on my finger. I suppose I can't really fault him for it ..it doesn't smell very good but I can't try any other cereal on him until tomorrow. You're supposed to give them 5-7 days on a cereal one kind at a time and 4-5 days with everything else once that cereal is good and he hasn't reacted to it. I guess this way it's easier to figure out what may cause an allergy and what may not this way.

We have a little Fresh food feeder (see below) where you can put just about any food into and they can chew at it through the mesh bag without the risk of choking. So he didn't care for apple sauce or squash we tried over the past week this time around. He made a face and then promptly pushed it out of his mouth with his tongue. But then I put some cut apple in that mesh bag and he loved it.

Today was also the day he got his last set of shots for the next 6 months. It went pretty good, he only cried for a min and then he was back to charming the nurses. But now as I'm writing this he's pretty cranky and clingy. The same thing happened last shots so I will give him a warm bath and some Tylenol and hopefully we'll be back to normal in a couple days.

I also had to have the nurse check out his bum because we are still battling the never ending diaper rash. We've blow dried between changes, creamed, not creamed, oatmeal bathed, air dried and still it keeps coming back. The health nurse says it's a yeast rash so we went out and got special cream and I'm crossing my fingers that it'll finally go away. He weighed in at 17 lbs 13 oz last Thursday and today at the nurses station it was 18. lbs 1 oz already! His length is 26 inches and so that puts him at the 75th percentile for weight in his age group and 25-50th percentile for length...whatever all that means. The nurses say he is a perfect size and very healthy bum rash or not.

Still no sign of teeth, who knows when those will show up..I'm in no hurry. He went from sitting up to sitting and moving down to a tummy position and he falls over less often. I have a feeling that the motor skills are going to come very fast now. He's a busy boy and it's always a challenge to keep him entertained with new and interesting things as he gets better at moving and grabbing. I am keeping my eyes peeled for toys that are basic learning ones that don't require batteries. We picked him up some stacking cups that stack up into a tower plus they clip together like balls and one where you push different shapes through holes. I think we all had one of those.

My first birthday that I got to share with Emmett was really nice. He got me a card (thanks daddy) and we walked out on the beach with some friends and then went to the coffee shop for a slice of b-day cake. Poor Tyler was sick but was such a good sport anyways. : )

Sitting and Eating Solids at Last

This kid is like clock work and first thing in the morning he always goes so why not save myself at least one messy diaper to wash? Besides..he loves it and maybe down the road when we are ready for serious potty training, the big toilet might not be so intimidating. You gotta admit though..he does look cute here ; )

This picture is the first time Emmett sat up on his own taken Feb 2 sitting in the middle of his playpen.

.....and some more the next day

This week Emmett started sitting on his own though not from a laying position yet. He weighs in at 17 lbs 8 oz as of last Thursday and is 6 months old today. I can hardly believe how fast the last 6 months went and I know the next 6 will go by fast too. On one hand it's fun to watch him learn all these new things but on the other hand I sadly realized how fast his babyhood is passing...soon I will have a toddler and that part of his life will be gone forever. But anyways, he is a happy and healthy kid and I'm thankful for that.

Today, he was officially ready to try solids which we did about half an hour ago. After nursing first, he had a teaspoon of rice cereal mixed with a tbsp of breast milk. I thought it looked like too little but then remembered he is still nursing and his tummy is only about the size of his fist. He made a funny face at first but then gobbled it down and you know sure enough he let us know he was full before it was completely gone. So I guess it was enough. I posted a video of his first few bites below. The videos have been coming up on here a bit squished sideways and I'm not sure why but I will post more video of Emmett trying other things as soon as I have them. Enjoy : )

I found it Mommy!

Bath time with Daddy

Maizie May

Hello again,

I know I haven't written in a week and a half but we were pretty busy over the last week. I was busy starting spring cleaning and sewing a blanket for a friend. Emmett is doing great, I weighed him in at a hefty 17.4 lbs and is growing longer fast ..about 25 inches now. I can hardly carry him in his car seat anymore and it won't be long now until we'll be upgrading his car seat to a bigger one. That will be good and bad.. on one hand I will miss the convenience of leaving him sleep in his car seat and just carrying him in when I run errands. But on the other hand but he's too heavy in it now and the straps are getting too tight . The new car seat will fit him much better but the down side is that I will have to take him out out of the car seat sleeping or not when i need to leave the car.

Emmett is laughing lots and almost sitting up on his own now too. He has a few favorite toys and loves to be sung Pat-A-Cake and If Your Happy And You Know It. Other things he loves is bath time and tummy tickles. He's discovered that his tongue is the best thing to spit with and can do that for hours. He has however also discovered his little private down there so now diaper changes have become quite the task to keep his hands out of there while your trying to clean him up. Boys!

Things he hates are still mostly being put to sleep in his crib and he's still not a big fan of the car seat either but that has been getting better. There are no teeth to be seen as of yet but we are expecting them soon.... i think lol. His hair is slowly getting longer and is a light brown/blond color. Also on the 9th he will be 6 months old and ready to try solids for the first time...rice pablum first and then fruits along with still being breast fed as well which I'm planning to do at least until a year old. We got him a high chair that attaches to the kitchen chair second hand but it is missing a strap so I am just in the process of trying to contact the company to see if I can get a replacement.
ttyl love Sarah, Tyler & Emmett xoxox
